National Park Service Founder's Day
Cabrillo National Monument Superintendent Tom Workman invites everyone to celebrate National Park Service Founder’s Day, and kick-off preparations leading up to the Cabrillo National Monument Centennial in 2013 and National Park Service Centennial in 2016, by visiting Cabrillo National Monument on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
Again this year, Cabrillo National Monument will open the tower of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Rangers and volunteers [many dressed in period attire] will be available to provide insight into the 1880s and what life was like at the lighthouse. This will be a rare opportunity to get an up-close and personal view of the Fresnel lens.
Weather permitting, visitors should get a spectacular view of not only the entire Monument but the entire metropolitan San Diego area.
HINT: This is a great opportunity to Take Your Best Shot photo contest entries!
Inquiries may be made by calling Cabrillo National Monument at (619) 557-5450.
